There have been battles that I've watched the AI seemingly, dynamically react to my troop movements - I've seen the enemy push spears forward to the line and immediately withdraw them to the rear when it saw my cavalry sneaking around to flank. This makes early game sieges very difficult to win, and well into the campaign, unless you have adequate siege equipment, you'll find yourself waiting for the enemy to ride out and meet you.ĪI is hit or miss with DarthMod, at least at the question of whether or not it's an improvement. Garrisons receive an overhaul and are much stronger such that, so long as you're upgrading your castles to at least third tier, you won't have to worry so much about stationing your own raw troops in cities to maintain public order.
For moving about the battlefield, I like the slower trot - for a full on cavalry charge into the enemy, the reduced speed lessens the visual impact of your Great Guard barreling into a unit of helpless Bow Ashigaru.
Gunpowder units conversely are boosted with increased damage and range.Ĭavalry generally move slower.
In Fall of the Samurai, the increased unit sizes lead to much more satisfying ranged combat, because more rifles can never be a bad thing, right? I will say I was a little disappointed that the awesome sound effects from Darthmod in Empire and Napoleon didn't make a return, but otherwise, it's great.īow units are made much less effective due to a slowing down of the speed of the missile itself and more of a "screen" of arrows that peppers the enemy rather than the unrealistic precision of the vanilla ranged soldiers. This is sort of standard issue and expected with Darth, but it also causes the units to "blend" into each other during a melee clash, resulting in battles that look much more organic.
